Have you ever done a class where you have booked and paid online, showed up, done the class and walked out and barely had a conversation with anyone? This can happen with drop-in classes.
Have you ever done a class where you have booked and paid online, showed up, told the instructor that you have a bad hip (so that they can help you strengthen it or at least not aggravate it) who has nodded politely then ignored everything you said because they had a class plan they wanted you to do, then you walked out and barely had a conversation with anyone?
This doesn’t happen at my studio.
We make every effort to start building the relationship with every person that comes to class as early as possible. Drop in classes are transactional and imply no commitment from either party – so not only will you not get the flexibility you wanted, you might not even enjoy it because the teacher doesn’t know what to do to make it enjoyable for you because they don’t know you!
This is what happens when you book a class with us:
- You call or fill out a contact form on our website and we call you
- We ask you loads of questions about what you want to do exercise for so that we can find the right class for YOU.
- We take your details, book you in, tell you what time to arrive, what to wear, what to expect, where to park and how to find the entrance.
- You will get a friendly welcome from one of my team who will ask you to fill out a health form so that we can understand any special requirements you have, aches pains, injuries, everything.
- Most of these considerations are easily managed because we only take 12 people per class and the teacher is aware that a new person is joining them.
- You will be introduced to the teacher, who will have read your health form and already be formulating modifications to their class plan to accommodate your needs.
- The other members will chat to you and welcome you to the class (honestly some of them are like excited puppies when a new person walks in!)
- You will do your class and the teacher will walk around so they can see how you are all doing and if you need help.
- After class the teacher will tell you how well you did and bring you back to reception where we will…
- help you figure out how the class timetable can work for you, which other classes are suitable and which to progress to.
- Only if you’re very happy that you want to keep coming to classes with us will we let you sign a rolling contract membership.
- This is a membership that renews itself every month unless you decide to stop coming (even then we only ask for a minimum of 16 days notice).
- No obligation, no hard sell. Just information to help you decide if you want to carry on doing classes with us.
This is quite a process but an important one when you’re over 45 and have a few more special considerations than 20yo bendy Wendy and 30 yo lycra Lizzie!
The level of effort we put in is a measure of how committed we are to welcoming everyone, helping you to achieve what you want and helping you enjoy exercise.
We have built a community over the last 8 years because we like people. We want to help people move towards their goals quicker and easier and the best way to do that is to get to really know someone and what the thing is that they’re working towards.
We plan every class for the people that are booked in – rather than come with a routine we expect you to follow.
Things we have planned for that none of the class might know about:
- Teresa needs to practice her kneeling so we include kneeling exercises.
- John is going for a hip replacement in a couple of months so we are strengthening his hip and legs for a strong recovery.
- Marie has got a lot on her plate at the minute so we include plenty of relaxation time for her to turn her brain off.
- Kelly enjoys a good workout and needs more challenging options.
This way your progress is faster, which means a stronger body, less aches and more enjoyment!
